Kauai - The Garden Isle of Hawaii

Kauai is 4th main largest Island and oldest one in the Hawaiin Islands. It’s also known as the Garden Isle. It’s the largest populated city ever. The following link provides you the details of Kauai. Located at: Northwest of O’ahu across the Kauai channel.

Hawaiin tradition says that the name origin was due to a Polynesian navigator who first discovered these islands. He named it after his favourite son. Kauai means “place around the neck” where he would carry his son usually. Also there exists another possibility for the translation namely “Food Season”.

In 1778, Captain JamesCook arrived at Waimea Bay who was the 1st European who arrived at Hawaiian Islands.


Origin of the islands is Volcanic. The island is formed due to the passage created by the Pacific Plate over the Hawaiian Hotspot. The island is approximately estimated to be 6 million years old. Highest peak is said to be Kawaikini. And the second highest peak is Mount Wai’ale’ale which exists at the centre of the island.

Capital climate exists is tropical but it experience different changes in the climate due to the Altitudes. Oct-Apr: Winter May-Sep: Dry conditions Jul-Nov: Tropical storms and Hurricanes occur.

Tourist Spots:

Poipu Beach Park: This is one of the most safest and popular beaches in the world. Poipu beach is said to be the “America’s Best Beach”. From December to May it’s a common thing to spot Humpback whales that spouts on shore. And if you’re lucky you can also see Monk Seals that take a sunbath on the shore. Snorkeling gives you a new experience about viewing the colourful fish. Additionally there’s a wading pool for youngsters and Toddlers.

Wailua River: Located to the east side of the island is one of the famous rivers in Hawaii which extends for about 20 miles. It has 2 famous waterfalls namely Opaekka Falls and Wailua Falls. Boat tours are available. This serves as a romantic area and is a popular wedding venue. There exists a mountain ridge between the Wailua and Kappa that looks like a human figure that lies on its back. Also there are 7 different temples present at the center of the island (Mount Waialeale)

Kokee State Park: Located north to the WaimeaCnyon is the Kokee state park. Kokee state park serves as the home place of various kinds of flora and fauna and it supports the endemic species too. Hiking through this forest gives you quite the adventure. And there’s a Natural History Museum where you can see the trails of the forest because you don’t want to get lost in the forest do you?

There are 2 lookouts namely the Kalalau and Puu O kila which stretches over to the sea. The glimpse of this view is highly exceptional.

Other than these places there are a variety of places to view such as the Northern Shore, Napali Coast, Waimea Canyon, Old Koloa town, Hanapepe town, Hanalei town etc.

Great Nicobar

Great Nicobar

Nicobar Islands are the largest islands in India and north of Sumatra. Great Nicobar is sparsely inhabitant with dense and thick forests suitable only for maintaining Reserves.

Located at: South-east Asia;located as a chain of islands in the eastern Indian Ocean. Indira point the southern tip of Great Nicobar is the southernmost tip of India.


Every place has its own History and Geography which makes it more interesting and makes it the best reason for travelling purpose. These islands refer to the Sri Lankan Pali Buddhist chronicles. The modern name is derived from the Chozha dynasty (Nakkavaram) inscribed in Thanjavur. This was under the Danish East India Company during the Colonization period. And during World War 2 these islands were occupied by Japan.


It consists of 3 divisions each having both habitant and inhabitant places. The population is about 42,000 alone and consists of various indigenous tribes. But the major disadvantage is that Non-Indians are not allowed to visit these islands. A special permit should be required from the government.


Shompen are the indigenous people of the interior Nicobar Islands. They belong to the Scheduled Tribes. They live on the western side of the islands and call themselves “Kalay” and those who live on the eastern side are known as “Keyet” with both groups referring each other as Buavela.


It consists of 22 islands approximately.

Northern group: Consists of Car Nicobar & Battimaly. Central group: Consists of 9 islands.

Climate: The climate is typically tropical but is moderated by sea breezes. Heavy showers occur due to the southwest monsoon from May to September. And during October to November Tropical cyclones occur.

Tourist Spots: 

Indira point:
Named after Prime Minister Indira Gandhi of India. It’s the southernmost tip of Nicobar Islands. Formerly it was known by many names such as Pygmalion point, Parsons Point& sometimes India Point. It’s locates 540km from Port Blair. It takes a day sea voyage to reach here. Kanyakumari (southernmost tip of India) is located slightly north of Indira point.

The lighthouse stands as a beacon in not only for the ships but also to Nicobar. It’s the biggest landmark on the International shipping lane. It also has a helipad.

Great Nicobar Biosphere Reserve: 

It has 2 National parks of India namely the Campbell National park in the north and Galathea National park in the south. This reserve is the home for many species of Flora and Fauna. And still the endemic species are also preserved here. The non-biosphere parts have been set for agricultural purposes.

Campbell Bay: 

Campbell bay is a part of the Great Nicobar Biosphere Reserve. One can reach Campbell Bay from Port Blair by PawanHans helicopter service.


Beaches are sparsely populated give a way to an ocean brimming with interesting marine life and many beautiful Coral gardens are also present.

SubhashMela is a very famous festival that occurs throughout the island of Car Nicobar. This is celebrated every first month of the year i.e. January. This festival marks the birth anniversary of NethajiSubhashChandr Bose. The festival lasts for a week and various cultural events are organized during this festival.

Island Tourism Festival: This festival is especially for the tourists. It’s a 10 day continuous festival and is held during the onset of winter season i.e.from December. This is a worldwide popular festival where all sorts of dance and cultural festivals will be held. Tourists from all over the world come and enjoy this show. The main aim of this festival is to promote tourism in Andaman& Nicobar by expressing their culture.

Hawai island also known as the Island of Hawaii is also called the Big island officially nicknamed as “The Orchid Isle”.

Located at: Hawaii state is located in the middle of North Pacific Ocean extends from about 3200kms from the coast of Continental USA.

The island of Hawaii is made by 6 volcanoes where 5(Mauna Kea,Mauna Loa, Kohala, Hualalai& Kilauea) of them remain above the sea and one Mahukona is submerged under the sea.

Hawaii is approximately estimated to be one and half a million years old. Maunakea is the tallest sea montain in the world. Maunaloa is the most massive mountain in the world which covers half of the island. But Hawaii is famous for Kilauea which is the active volcano that is erupting from 1983.

Hawaii has a distinct and different geography in different regions ranging from the lush green region that exists to the east side town of Hilo which receives 130cm annual rainfall to Kawaihae that receives not less than 5 inches rainfall per year. Fern forests of Puna are cool whereas Waimea has misty breeze, Kona has sunny lava plain and Kau has a dry climate.

It lies southeast of Bangkok. KoSomet is the sub district of Rayong province, largest and the westernmost of a cluster of islands. It lies in the Phesubdistrict named asMueang district. Generally KoSamet is a national park and entry fee will be levied for each tourist at the time of arrival during the village.

Located:in the Gulf of Thailand along the coastline of Thai in the province of Rayong.

Until 1981 there was a law stating that outsiders shouldn’t stay overnight. In that year the island was declared to be a National Park. It is believed that once this island of KoSamet was homeland for the Pirates. Thestory of the classical epic, “The Princess Saga, Mermaids & Giants” were based on these islands. There are 3 small rock islands at the southern tip of the island.

The Phi Phi islands are located in Thailand. It consists of two Krabi provinces namely Ko Phi Phi Don (most populated island) &Ko Phi Phi Lee (visited by many people). Phi Phi Don originally populated by Muslim Fishermen but later it became a Coconut Plantation.

Ko Phi Phi Lee was used in the film named “The Beach” (British-American film). But they have devastated the location to make it suitable to the Novel.

Located: Between Phuket & Western Strait of Malacca.

These islands are said to be the oldest province in all of Thailand and is said to exist from pre-historic period. Krabi means Sword. Phi Phi originated from the original Malay word PulauApi-Api (The Fiery Isle).


There are 6 islands in the group known as Phi Phi and lies 50km south east to Phuket. Among them Phi Phi Don & Phi Phi Lee are the most famous and largest islands. The Hadnopparattara-Koh Phi Phi National Park serves as the home for many corals and is the mother of Marine Life. Ko Phi Phi Don: 

Largest of Phi Phi islands and it consists of the large towns and Resort Areas. These islands were formerly of Ultimate scenery beauty, but due to the over-population of the Tourists and also the improvement of Restaurants, shops and Internet Cafe the place has been exploited.

The view of the twin bays with the curved areas of the Sandy Beaches gives a spectacular view. Boat trips and Snorkelling are encouraged for visualizing the Coral Reefs inside the shallow waters.

Ko Phi Phi Lee: 

2ndLargest of the Phi Phi islands and it consists of a Ring of steep of Limestone hills which is surrounded by Maya Bay, LohSamah (shallow Bays). There’s one large shallow called Pi Ley with a coral reef as the entrance. Gives spectacularscenery vies of the bays Ao Pi Le, Ao Maya, Ao Lo Sa Ma. Lies to the Northern East part the Tham Viking Cave. The cave was renamed as ThamPhayaNak (or) Naga Serpent Cave by the King BhumibolAdulyadej because it resembled a mythical creature.

Other than this the tourist attractions are the Stone beaches at Koh Yung, Coral spots at Ao Maya &Ao Lo Sama. Also there exists marvellous beaches along the coast that stretches from north to south of the island at Ko Mai Phai.

Koh Samui often referred as Samui by the locals is the 2nd largest island after Phuket. And it is located in the SuratThani province. Annual population is estimated about 1.5 million round the year. Natural resources, Coconut trees & Coral reefs are abundant.

Located at: The east coast of KraIsthumus in Thailand.


Every place has its own History and Geography which makes it more interesting and makes it the best reason for travelling purpose. 15 centuries ago the island was inhabited by fishermen from the Malay Peninsula & southern China. During the 70’s there weren’t any roads and people have to trek throughout the island to reach a place.

At present the economy of the island is purely upon by the tourists. But during the 70’s the island served as a self-sufficient community. But due to the increased tourists there are many quarrels between the tourists and the locals.


The island is surrounded by 60 islands which composes the Ang Thong Marine National Park. At the centre of the island lies the great uninhabitable tropical jungle called the KhaoPom has an altitude of 635m. Nathon is said to be the major port for transportation & it acts as the centre of fishing industries.

Koh Samui Island has a tropical monsoon climate. The city has one dry season month that starts during February. Climate is warm & humid throughout the year. October to November months is recorded to have the highest precipitation in the year. The duration of these rains last only from 20 to 60 minutes maximum.

• Namuang Safari Park: Namuang Safari Park consists of Namuang Waterfalls inside the Jungle where safari rides on elephant reveals you animals like Crocodiles, Monkeys & tropical birds. It is located between HuaThanon&Nathon. It sure is a fun & exciting ride. 
• KhaoYai: It’s also known as Magic Garden (a) Paradise Park farm where this forms the highest in peak in the entire KoSamuiIsland. Here Magic Gardens are must to visit. They are also known as Buddha’s secret Garden.

KoTarutao of Thailand


KoTarutao is the largest island present at the Satun province in Thailand. This island is famous because it’s the most unspoiled islands in the Andaman Sea.

Located:Close to the Malaysia border

As the name says, the island is of major historical importance. 3000 criminals were held there during 1938-1948. Food and water resources were depleted from the mainland during WorldWar 2. Therefore the prisons rotted to death due to Malaria.

It is said that the survivors from this catastrophe became Pirates in the Strait of Malacca. Also the film Survivor: Thailand has been taken in these islands.


The word Ko means island. The islands whose interiors are rocky are covered with forests. The beaches provide you with an exquisite experience with its fine white powdered sand and crystal clear water. Few broad plains and valleys also exist here and there. 60% of the islands are the forest and there are mangrove swamps too.


The island experiences a monsoon climate. From the months of May to October you might see the downpours but the rainfall aren’t that much as you expect. It’s more like showers than downpours. These monsoon winds make the boat travels hazardous and hence it’s the boating are also closed during the season. From November to April the visitors are encouraged to visit the island.

Tourist Spots: 

• Tarutao National Park: It’s a famous and most popular national park in Thailand. These national parks preserve almost all kinds of animals and plants including the endemic species.

• TaloWao Bay: It’s the other main prison site. The history says that these were tortured over here by caging them in several cages and they were forced to work from inside these cages. The places reveal you the buildings the prisoners were maintained. These buildings are of high ruins at present. And at present it serves as a cemetery for the thousands of prisoners who died.

• Beaches: All the islands in Thailand are famous for its beaches. Likewise KoSamet also has some of its popular beaches such asAoJak Bay, AoLue See, AoMakham&AoMolae etc. Also crocodile caves are also available here.

• TaloUdang: TaloUdangwas place originally built by the prisoners. It follows the old prisoner’s road. In some places you can still see the remains of the bridges and the stonework can also be seen. This gives a hiking experience since the ways are difficult to go on. The walk lasts for around 4 to 5 hours approximately depends upon the speed you walk. On the way you may see the evergreen forests with rubber trees and you also cross over the agricultural lands.

Other than this there aren’t many places to roam about. If you wish to roam around the interiors hire a motorbike from reputable dealers and go and make some rounds in the nearby villages.

Adventure Sports: 

Boat trips &Snorkelling are best sports that are enjoyed around here. Rent a motorboat or a private boat and just go around the island and take a look into the natural beauty. Some Boat owners offer you private tours to the nearby islands too.

Little Andaman

Little Andaman

Little Andaman is the 4th largest island in the Andaman Islands. Lies at the Southern end of the Archipelago. In great Andaman it is separated from Rutland Island by the Duncan passage. Tourists season are between the months of November to April. It consists of Palm Oil plantations. And it consists of 4 graampanchayats.

This island is said to be a virgin i.e. the island has quite very low tourist attractions compared to that of other parts of Andaman & Nicobar.

Located at: It is located at the southern end of the Archipelago and is located at a distance of 120km from Port Blair.

Cultivation & Fisheries are the jobs of people since several decades. Due to the advancement in the technology Oil plantation Industries are also setup. This is the home of Onge aboriginal tribe that existed in little Andaman. They named the island as “Egu Belong”. Also settlers from Bangladesh are also present there.


The low lying island has very few attractions but it has a widespread rainforest and serves as a home place for many species of Marine turtle. • Waterfalls: Waterfalls are of the ultimate attraction in Little Andaman. But the tourists are advised not to swim in Waterfalls due to the existence of Crocodiles.

Other waterfall that attracts the tourists is the Whisper wave waterfalls. It’s located in the midst of Jungle surrounded by Bamboo grass. The trip to these waterfalls is like going on a hike.

Bala Reef: Bala reef is a reef that consists of multiple coral gardens and one can spot various types of fish. Adventures like Scuba diving are highly encouraged.

Beaches:There are 2 famous beaches in Little Andaman. They are Butler Bay Beach &Netaji Nagar Beach 

Butler Bay Beach: It’s a virgin beach that offers a long sandy shore. ANIFPDCL maintains the beach and it offers Nicobaree style cottages to the Tourists at a reasonable payment. But the sea is quite rough with crocodiles wandering. It’s a place to take rest. There’s also a Boat ride from Butler Bay to Palm Oil factory is quite interesting. It’s an excellent place for sun basking, coral viewing and surfing.

 Netaji Nagar Beach: This is another beach that attracts fewer tourists and located along the roadside of the village.

Dams: There are two dams in Little Andaman namely Ramakrishnapur and Vivekanadapuram. These are not yet explored by the tourists but these are the potential attractions of Little Andaman. • Travel around the areas in bikes. Also Buses, Auto-rickshaws are also available for the transportation of Tourists. And the people are also friendly. You can get free lifts too if you’re lucky. 

Important: Entry to Little Andaman is only from Port Blair where 7 to 9 hours voyage is required. Stay facilities are also limited in Little Andaman.

Maui - The Valley Isle of Hawaii


Maui is the 2nd largest island in the Hawaiian grounds. Maui is voted as the “Best Island” by the readers and travellers for the past 19 years.

Located at: It is located in the Hawaii state which is present in the middle of North Pacific Ocean extends from about 3200kms from the coast of Continental USA.

 • Lahaina: It was once known as Lele which means “relentless sun”. It’s a historic town that has 55 acres for historic districts and has multiple art galleries. This town can be chosen during winter seasons because there is Whale watching tour at the Lahaina harbour. Humpback whales are the populr ones that are present here.

 • Hana: Along the rugged east coastline there exists a peaceful town called Hana. With rainforests, waterfalls, pools and dramatic seascapes the island is a highly spectacular view. Hana Beach Park and Hanoa beach are the most beautiful beaches in the entire Pacific Ocean. Snorkelling at Waianapanapa State park with the beautiful black sand beach is highly exquisite. Oahu - The Gathering Place



Oahu in the Hawaiian language is called as “The Gathering place”. It is the highly populated island ever compared to other Hawaiian islands. Honolulu is the state capital that lies along the southeast coast.
Located at: It is located in the Hawaii State which is present in the middle of North Pacific Ocean extends from about 3200kms from the coast of Continental USA.

The island is the result of two shielded volcano Wai’anae&Ko’olau with a saddle between them. During World War 2, the Japanese army attacked US at Pearl Harbour which is located at Oahu. That made a quite a destruction. An earthquake that occurred at 2006 caused a damage of $200 million. It took millions of dollars to get the island back to the original position.

Oahu’s north shore is famous for its tremendous waves during winter. Winter and summer are hard to differentiate. From May to October there is least amount of rainfall. The months of June & July are the driest.

Iolani Palace: The palace was built by King David Kalakua, “The Merrie Monarch” during the period of 1882-1893. He was quite impressed by the European architectural styles and built the palace in the same way. It had the features like first electric light system, flush toilets, Intra-house telephones. The palace interiors were also quite decorativesuch as beautiful Koa staircase, ornate furniture and there were royal gifts and ornaments from all over the world.

Pearl Harbour: The world famous Pearl Harbour was named as for the pearl Oysters. It’s the largest natural Harbour in Hawaii. There’s a USS Arizona memorial quotes the historic event that occurred during December 7th,1941. Also there’s a visitor centre that showcases a film regarding the attack. A Floating memorial is also present that is present over the sunken hull of the Battleship.

Waikki: Located in the south shore of Honolulu. Waikki is famous for its beaches and every room is only two or three blocks away from the sea. The biggest attractions are Honolulu Zoo and Waikki aquarium. Waikki is the place to party all day and the fun extends till Waikki sunset with amazing nightlife and Live Music.

Ritchie’s arcipelago are a cluster of small islands present that lies to the east coast of South Andaman and Baratang. It consists of 4 large islands 7 smaller ones and several islets. However, only 3 islands are allowed to visit by the foreigners, whereas most of the islands remain inhabited. They are Havelock, Neil & Long islands.

Located in: The Bay of Bengal borders the Andaman Sea, Located North east to Port Blair.


Every place has its own History and Geography which makes it more interesting and makes it the best reason for travelling purpose. The place has been named after “Ritchie” a British marine surveyor. He spent almost 2 decades documenting in and around Andaman. These details helped the British colony to set up a colony at the Andamans. Later these islands were annexed by the British rulers.


These islands in the Ritchie’s Archipelago are closely spaced which extends for about 60km. The island interiors consist of Hills and plains above the sea level. There are a few rocky coastal cliffs often interrupted by long sandy beaches, Lagoons and estuaries. There are also coral reefs present.

These islands have a tropical, warm, moist and equable climate. Due to the proximity of sea and abundant rainfall it’s impossible to feel the extreme heat from the sun. Here winter is unknown.

December-February: Has a cool effect due to the north east monsoon. March-April: Typically warm.

May-October: Southwest monsoon breaks resulting in precipitations.

Tourist Spots:

Sports like Snorkelling, Game fishing and elephant rides are also encouraged.

Havelock Island:

Havelock islands are the famous among the tourists. The island is most visited by foreigners. Due to the long and white pristine beaches, Cycle rides are also available but the journey is quite tough. Due to the increased tourist attraction many hotels and resorts have been established. Elephant beach are often preferred as the best spot for Snorkelling adventures. But Sand-flies are a major problem over here. Better go out with any kind of lotions applied on your body.

Neil Island:

Neil Island is the smallest island and the tourists are permitted to stay on. Here Bharatpur is the best beach if you want to swim. Other than this Snorkelling adventures are also carried out. Bicycle rides also add a feather to the cap. There’s a natural bridge found in Sitapur. The curve of Bay at Sitapur serves as the home foe various kinds of birds such as Hawabill birds. The tiny island of Chota Neil is visible from the beach. Good restaurants are also available.

Long island:

It’s a beautiful island with a long sandy beach Lalaji. You can walk around the beach or go boating that costs you only about Rs.200. This is a small island lined with coconut trees at the shore. There’s not much of fun over here. The roads are not proper and there might only be a couple of places to roam about. So a two day sty is more than enough in this area.
