Aeolian Islands which in Italian are called Isole Eolie are volcanic mountains in the north of Italy situated in the Tyrrhenian Sea. These islands are very popular tourist destination and attract as much as 200000 people every year. The shape which the island have acquired now are the result of the volcanic activity which is continuously going on in these islands from close to 300000 years.

We can find the traces of energy due to these activities in the thermal nature of the water found in various parts of the island group. There are still two active mountains in these islands namely Stromboli and Vulcano. This group consist of numerous small sized islands. The largest among these islands is Lipari. This island covers such a large portion of the island that the whole group is sometimes referred to as the Lipari group.

Some other important islands of the group are Salina, Alicudi, Filicudi and Panarea. This overall is a complex of eight islands which overall covers an area of 1600 square kilometres. It is tremendous to know that this whole area emerged from within the Tyrrhenian sea. The lava is found to be originated from the depth of around 3600 metres.

Among all these islands two are unnamed. Uniquely fascinating beauty is the trademark of these islands. Two of these island exhibit active volcanic activities. Fumbling through the chests of history we find that these islands have seen a lot. Apart from that association with greek gods have lured a lot of dreamers into the islands. Great beaches, experience of sea swimming and coastal walking makes these islands special in all regards.

There are no sandy beaches here but you will find beautiful beaches with pleanty of rocks. Lipari is one of the biggest among them. It is very well connected. This island is the main tourist hub and offers all the excitements of the Aeolian Island group. There are sandy beaches, exotic resorts and restorents. They all serve the uniqueness of the Aeolian Islands.

The easiest way to reach the island is by a scooter which can be easily rented. There are beautiful vllages in this island and a township. Aeolian delicacies are attraction of the world and are mainly sea food concentrated. Pepper and tomato are the main ingredients in the dishes.

Apart from this wines are also a grand attraction of the Aeolian islands of Sicily. Overall these islands are terrific tourist destination and easily approachable via various means. Ferries among them are cheapest and convenient.
